City Center At Oyster Point
When the development team proposed an intriguing plan for a long-vacant, 52-acre, city-owned parcel, Newport News was enthusiastic about the prospect of ultimately realigning the city’s downtown with the shifting population core and establishing a focal point for public activity and commerce.
CMSS is the master planner and town architect for this $425 million development formed on a flexible urban grid surrounding a five-acre grand fountain. Projects frame the public realm, fitting cohesively with the streets, sidewalks, and open spaces. City Center is planned to include over one million SF of office space; 600 residences; 250,000 SF of shopping, dining, and entertainment spaces; parking for 4,700 cars; and a hotel.
City Center has quickly become the new social epicenter of the city and a destination for tourists and residents alike. Today, City Center has attracted a tenant base of high-end national tenants including a full-service Marriott hotel and conference center, Banana Republic, Red Star Tavern, and Aveda Spa.
