Cotton Incorporated
World Headquarters

This seventeen-acre complex in the Raleigh-Durham Research Triangle of North Carolina consists of a formal headquarters serving executive staff and an attached R&D facility. The resulting building projects a strong corporate image, maximizes research space, and provides a safe and educational experience for industry tour groups.

A striking, columned entryway leads into a two-story ceremonial lobby where the spool-shaped reception desk is framed by a duet of sweeping stairs. Mimicking the company's products, neutral tones and materials related to weaving and textiles decorate the headquarters facility, including cotton fabric wall coverings and carpet and medium-toned natural wood. The laboratory building features energetic colors and industrial finishes. To guide tour groups, each of the eleven lab spaces was given a different color, marked by bright patches of carpet and tile. Floor-to-ceiling glass walls provide a viewing "window" at these observation points.
