Hampton City Administration Building

Successful on both an aesthetic and functional level, this six-story office building in downtown Hampton, Virginia complements surrounding architecture and consolidated a number of city offices previously scattered in multiple locations.

Dark brick and light precast concrete were incorporated to match nearby architecture while a curved roof element ties in with the striking Virginia Air and Space Center. Internally, the high-traffic first floor needed to be separated from private offices on the second through fifth floors, yet easily connect to the 6th floor city departments frequented by citizens. Narrow passageways minimize traffic flow from the public areas, while floor patterns and wall finishes help guide visitors to their proper destination.

With the influx of several hundred employees and a constant flow of residents, this modern building is providing a boost for area shops and restaurants.
