The Hilton Garden Inn, The Town Center of Virginia Beach

The Hilton Garden Inn, The Town Center of Virginia Beach's first hotel, sits at the heart of this emerging mixed-use district. CMSS designers altered the Hilton’s suburban, business class, “garden-style” prototype by changing the footprint to fit into the tighter, more urban site. Interiors were accordingly adapted.

The franchise’s garden image was respected through the use of floral images throughout the space. The standard finishes were upgraded to reflect the hotel’s urban setting, while the “cross” elements featured in the exterior architecture were integrated into the millwork and furniture. Carpets were custom designed using this new, opulent palette and again reflect the garden image of the brand. All furniture and art was selected to reflect a sophisticated, timeless urban aesthetic.

The project represents a successful integration of styles — one which has few visual ties to chain’s standard suburban business class accommodations, but which presents virtually no change to the actual product. CMSS’s design alterations were so successful in fact, that the Hilton franchise is considering the design team’s bar/dining area layout as a permanent addition to its official design standards for its Garden Inn prototype.
