The Village of Rocketts Landing
In 1607, English colonists came ashore at this site below the falls of the James River opening Central Virginia for settlement. As a crossroads for colonial commerce, a booming 1800s seaport, and Confederate shipyard, this land became an integral part of America’s history before it degenerated into an industrial brownfield. Now, the 54-acre site is in the midst of a reawakening.
Through a process of environmental remediation and extensive public participation, CMSS developed a master plan that lays the foundation for village life, and a design aesthetic that pays homage to the site’s heritage. The $500 million village—with 2,000 residences 500,000 SF of office space, 200,000 SF of retail and entertainment space, a hotel, a private marina, and a mile-long riverfront park—reintroduces a riverfront element to downtown and resurrects one of the city’s oldest and most significant districts.
Today, Rocketts Landing begins a new era of activity, welcoming new residents exactly 400 years after its discovery.
