Suffolk Center For The Cultural Arts
A grassroots effort to rescue an abandoned civic landmark, the 1929 Suffolk High School, has given the community a place to participate in visual and performing arts and has enhanced the cultural experience of the City.
Through the utilization of historic tax credits, CMSS re-purposed the utilitarian spaces of the old high school into the elegant places for supporting the arts and the community. The 68,000 SF facility boasts a 550-seat professional-quality theater with raised stage house, a grand ballroom for banquets, dance studios, dark rooms, pottery studios, computer labs, dressing rooms, a green room, conference space and offices.
Recently completed, this adaptive-reuse project has infused new life into this once deserted downtown district, now alive with people, commerce, and activity.
