The Town Center of Virginia Beach
With the city facing a number of maturation issues including the lack of a true urban center, suburban sprawl, and rapid expansion, Town Center was planned as a modern downtown and solution for future development patterns to establish a dense urban core for this progressive, thriving metropolis.
CMSS developed the master plan, as well as the landscape architecture, interior design, and architectural design for the majority of the buildings in Virginia Beach’s new urban center. To create a walkable district, planners established a pedestrian-friendly street grid enhanced with streetscapes, “Main Street”-style storefronts, open spaces, and public parking. The vibrant atmosphere of the Town Center has provided the local community with a delightful place to gather, dine, shop, live, and work in a unique urban environment.
This 17-block public-private endeavor has become a dynamic mixed-use district attracting tenants such as a Westin Hotel, Sandler Center for the Performing Arts, Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, PF Chang’s, and Brooks Brothers.
